What were the most popular books in Ottawa in 2022?

Posted on January 15, 2023

Thanks to statistics compiled by the Ottawa Public Library, we now know the titles of the most popular reads in Canada’s capital in 2022. According to statistics released by the OPL’s Content Services department, American author Delia Owens 2018 novel Where Crowdads Sing was the most popular English-language adult book checked out from the branches of the municipal library.  Clearly, the 2022 film by the same title had something to do with the book’s popularity. This book was followed in second place by a mystery entitled The Maid by Nina Prose and in third place by Taylor Jenkins Reid’s historical fiction The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. Cree author Michelle Good’s Canadian narrative on the legacy of residential schools, Five Little Indians, was the fourth most popular book in the OPL’s collection, while Colleen Hoover’s romance It Ends With Us came in fifth.

Among French-language adult books available through the OPL, Michel Jean’s Tiohtiá:ke topped the list. The title refers to the name of Montreal in the Mohawk language.
